Vacuum Tanker Awareness Course
M D Services Vacuum tanker awareness and operation course provides the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely handle vacuum tankers, gully suckers, and jetting equipment. The course is designed for both novice and experienced operators working in drainage, utilities, and highway maintenance.
Key Course Information
- Accreditations: course is industry-recognised and accredited by EUSR
- Duration: Course last between 1-2 days.
- Assessment: Training usually concludes with both a theoretical written test and a practical assessment to ensure competency.
- Certification: Successful learners receive a photo ID card (EUSR Skilled Operator card) which is valid for 3 years.
Training Module
The Course covers a blend of safety theory and hands-on operational training, including:
- Safety & Risk Assessment: Identifying hazards, understanding Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), and selecting correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Equipment Knowledge: Understanding the design and function of the vacuum system, valves, controls, and Bauer couplings
- Operational Procedures: Safe loading under vacuum, gravity and pressure discharge, and safe tipping of the tank.
- Vehicle Handling: Driving and manoeuvring loaded tankers, with a focus on understanding the "slosh effect" of part-loads.
- Maintenance & Emergency: Daily pre-use checks, defect reporting, and emergency procedures for spillages.
