M D Services 1 x day manual handling awareness training is a basic health and safety course designed to teach you how to transport or support loads safely using hand or bodily force. It aims to prevent Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs)—like back pain and joint strain—which account for about one-third of all workplace injuries.

1. Who Needs This Training?

This training is suitable for almost everyone, as manual handling occurs in nearly every job: 

  • Drainage, Warehouse & Construction: For frequent lifting of heavy goods or materials.
  • Office Workers: For occasional tasks like moving boxes, files, or furniture.
  • Retail & Delivery: For stocking shelves and unloading deliveries.
  • Healthcare: For moving people or equipment (though specialized "Moving and Handling of People" courses are often required). 

2. Core Training Content

This course cover these essential areas to comply with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992: 

  • Risk Assessment (TILE/LITE): A method to evaluate the Task, Individual, Load, and Environment before lifting.
  • Anatomy of the Spine: Understanding how the back works and why improper lifting causes injury.
  • Safe Lifting Techniques: Keeping the load close to the body, bending the knees instead of the back, and avoiding twisting.
  • Mechanical Aids: When and how to use trolleys, hoists, or pallet jacks to avoid manual lifting.
